Hugg Genealogy Site Companion Blog

A companion journal to my genealogy site, which covers the following (non-inclusive) families: Hugg, Casperson, Grabowski, Talorowski, Lynch, Kitchens. The blog and site also offer (or will offer) information on the history of Delaware, Maryland's Eastern Short and New Jersey.

Back at it (?)

Although I still don't really have any "extra" time, I've decided to make a commitment to get at least a little farther in my genealogical research. With the occasional research I've done over the past few years I think I've got a good start on tracing my paternal (Hugg) line traced back to the Revolutionary War, and I'm sure I can make additional inroads in other branches as well: the Cohee's and Chamber lines in particular.

There are currently two stumbling blocks in the Hugg line. The first occurs in 1818, when William H. Hugg is born. I feel confident that he was born to a William Hugg from the same general area that was born in 1796, but need to document this connection. William Hugg appears to be the son of a Benjamin Hugg, born about 1755 (this also needs to be better documented).

The next break in the Hugg line is now pushed back to 1755, when Benjamin Hugg was born in Maryland (judging from later records, he was probably born on the Eastern Shore, towards the North. There were two Hugg brothers, Patrick Hugg and William(jr), who were living in that general area and were about 26 and 31 years old, respectively, at the time of Benjamin's birth. It would seem likely that one of these men is Benjamin Hugg's father and the other his uncle - but I don't have evidence yet to confirm either.

From there (about the turn of the 18th century), the Hugg's may have come from farther down the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and then from there...well, that remains to be seen.

I will attempt to (1) keep this blog current, esp. as I find resources that may help others researching either one of my lines or, more likely, researching similar geographical areas and time periods; and (2) to update the sadly out of date website at http://geocities.com/huggfamily.
